![]() I don’t know who were more sad after we all jump in an airplane the day after the Regatta was over, if the sailors or the coaches, seriously! Talking with coaches about styles, rigging techniques, challenges they face, team management…you truly connect with many of them and the knowledge learned it’s priceless, just as the friendships that carry on after the event. The Opening and Closing ceremonies aren’t only spectacular but truly make the sailors and coaches feel unique! This only carries forward with the sailors and pumps them up. You truly feel like, for 15 days, you belong into something special and for those two weeks, you’re surrounded by the best of the best in Optimist Sailing. The tremendous effort the host, volunteers, management and parents put into the event. Each team has its own dynamics, routines, ways to motivate each other, communication styles…its was like being at school at your favorite subject over and over everyday. The professionalism of the coaches, regardless of their origin or team experience.Sailors are there for one and only one reason, give their best every single second of the day. You can sense that as you approach the start of the event and grows into you as the event starts. Many of the sailors looked like they were competing at the Olympics, and their routines were near to professionalism. The level of commitment, maturity, responsibility and focus. But essentially, the following really made me reconsider a lot as a coach: Why it has reshaped me as a coach? There are a thousand different reasons I could mention, and I would still fall short into getting myself explained. You experience so many cultures, so many sailing techniques, so many coaching styles and approach, that you’re trying to absorb all of it while you’re still trying to get your job done! It’s a fantastic format that lets you connect with people who live on the other side of the world, where bonding isn’t required but super encouraged and the meals that we all share in the same place make you feel special, whether you’re a coach or a sailor. It’s the pinnacle of the sport, the Olympics for Optimist Sailing, where only the top 5 in each country gets to participate, and boy the atmosphere around the event it’s impossible to describe unless you’re actually part of it. The 2019 IODA World Championships were the largest ever, with a record registered 63 countries. The preparation included the 2019 International Optimist Regatta in St Thomas, USVI and one week of training with the Team USVI Worlds Team and their Head Coach, Argy Resano, just prior to the Event. ![]() The Puerto Rican Worlds Team was one of the youngest teams at the 2019 IODA Worlds Team, and it was such a rewarding experience. I can’t thank enough the Puerto Rico Optimist Association, for providing me with the opportunity to coach at such incredible, rewarding, high level event and live at first hand how professional and competitive Optimist Sailing can be. The memories of the 2019 IODA World Championships are coming back as unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, many if not all the IODA 2020 Events will be canceled for the year, leaving the Opti Sailing Community without those extraordinary experiences for sailors and coaches. ![]() ![]() ‘’It has been almost a year since I actually coached at my first IODA World Championship, and eventually my first IODA Event ever (as coach and as a sailor), and sure feels like it just happened yesterday with the amount of emotions, feelings, re-connections with long time coach friends, new friendships, experiences, moments I will remember forever.and of course, the 15 days spend in beautiful Antigua coaching! Omari Scott, Coral Reef Yacht Club Head Opti Coach, is originally from Antigua and was always talking wonders about his country…I can say, with no doubt, that he falls short about how amazing the Antiguan people and it’s culture actually is.

Instead, Instacart announced Sunday it would change the default to the amount the customer last tipped, saying tips have increased considerably during the virus crisis. They also demanded that Intacart raise the tip default in its app to 10% from the current 5%. The strike organizers that policy extended to workers with a doctor’s note verifying a pre-existing condition that could make them more vulnerable to the virus. Instacart also announced a month-long extension of a temporary policy giving 14 days of paid leave to workers who are diagnosed with coronavirus, or have been ordered to isolate themselves. Instacart has started offering bonuses of between $25 and $200 for its hourly employees dependent on hours worked until April 15. During the week of March 2, Instacart, Amazon, and Walmart grocery delivery services each saw at least a 65 percent sales increase compared to the same time last year, according to estimates from Earnest Research. On Sunday, the company said it had contracted with a third-party manufacturer to make a hand sanitizer spray that workers can request at no cost via a website starting Monday, with shipments starting in a few days.ĭata show online grocery orders jumping even before some cities and states imposed “stay at home” orders. Grozdina said she wears a mask to work that she bought herself and immediately showers when she gets home.Īmong their demands, the strike organizers want hazard pay of $5 an order and supplies of hand sanitizer, wipes and cleaning supplies free of charge. Grozdina, who makes $13 an hour and doesn’t get tips, said the crowds of fellow Instacart shoppers have made it tough to keep a safe distance while racing to fulfill orders. Panic shopping has cleared out the shelves, meaning she often has to replace a customer’s orders with a lesser item or notify them that it’s not available. It also directly employs about 20,000 part-time workers who are assigned to single stores, collecting groceries that are subsequently delivered to clients by a contracted Instacart worker.Ĭhloe Grozdina, a part-time Instacart in-store shopper assigned to a Mariano’s grocery store in the Chicago area, says workers are seeing “a lot of apocalypse orders” from customers hunkered down in their homes. Instacart currently has a workforce of more than 200,000 contracted workers who make multiple trips a day to various grocery stores to fulfill and deliver orders that customers make through the app. Some customers are waiting days to receive orders. The company said 50,000 new shoppers joined its platform in just the past week. The San Francisco-based delivery app is trying to hire 300,000 more workers – more than doubling its workforce –to fulfill orders it says have surged by 150% year-over-year in the past weeks. Instacart said Sunday it would soon provide workers with a new hand sanitizer upon request and outlined changes to its tip system. They’ve been asking Instacart to provide workers with hazard pay and protective gear, among other demands. News of the strike comes just days after Instacart announced plans to hire 300,000 shoppers who would work as independent contractors, more than doubling the company’s current workforce.NEW YORK – A possible strike by Instacart workers highlights the impact of the coronavirus outbreak on the grocery delivery business, where workers are worried about their safety as they try to meet a surge in demand for online groceries.Ī group called the Gig Workers Collective is calling for a nationwide walk-out today. “They are profiting astronomically off of us literally risking our lives, all while refusing to provide us with effective protection, meaningful pay, and meaningful benefits.” “Instacart has a well established history of exploiting its Shoppers, one that extends years back before our current crisis,” the post reads. The strike, first reported by Vice, is planned to start Monday March 30, and will continue until Instacart meets the demands. The gig workers who risk infection to bring groceries to customers’ homes, are demanding an extra $5 “hazard pay” fee added to each order, paid safety equipment (hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes/sprays and soap) and an “extension and expansion of pay for workers impacted by COVID-19,” according to a post in Medium by Instacart shoppers and labor activism group Gig Workers Collective. The grocery delivery service has become a vital resource for some as the novel coronavirus continues to spread in the United States, the country with the most cases in the world. (NEXSTAR) – Instacart shoppers are planning to strike, demanding additional protection against the looming health and financial threat of COVID-19 Please look at the time stamp on the story to see when it was last updated. ![]() This is an archived article and the information in the article may be outdated. ![]() ![]() This is so Meleers/Rangers/Magers can't kill you easily. If you plan on Selling your goods/Merchanting, I would suggest 60+ HP and 50+ Defense. The price of food varies though, so never stock more raw food than you can cook and sell in a short period of time. Cooking will always be good because unlike Smithing/Crafting/Fletching, players ALWAYS use food. Fletching is a decent alternative because you can alch your product and gain gold and magic XP. HOWEVER just like Smithing, Crafting will always net you profit. Hides are getting more expensive and the demand for d'hide sets isn't as high as it was during the first week. Crafting however is probably not the best route either. I wont speak for any other skills really because I do not train them so I can't speak for the market/methods. I would only suggest choosing smithing if you Gathering skill(s) include Mining. Rune Platelegs/Plateskirts are around 60-70K Ea as the shop price is 69.8K and again, not many enter the game through NPC drops.Īs I said earlier, Smithing will always be decent profit, but as more and more people train it, the price to make bars will eventually make smithing less favorable. These are a good way to make profit because not many monsters can drop them and they are not sold by shops. Rune Kiteshields are currently around 50-60K Ea and use 3 Bars. They are too slow and easily out DPSed by a Magic Shortbow UNLESS you use Dragon Bolts(e) which cost ~5K Ea. Not many people use Rune Crossbows especially for PKing. These require 1 Runite Bar and 69 Fletching to make. Rune Crossbows are currently around 50K Ea. I wouldn't suggest making these because they require 2 bars, and even selling them for 30K ea which takes a long time, you would only profit ~5K/bar. Rune Scimitars are the same way, but will always orbit around 20-30K ea. This causes Rune Axes to drop rapidly and they eventually will not be worth making at all. Rune axes enter the game through NPC drops and Smithing, but there aren't enough woodcutters to support the Rune Axe market. You can make some money of Adamant items and maybe a couple of Mithril, but Rune is where the profit is at. Smithing for profit is simple, get to Rune and make Rune items. With the threat of getting killed for gear and losing XP in stats, Slayer is not everyone's first option. Unlocking Granite mauls even though fairly easy is still a decent amount of XP to gain. The reason I did not include Slayer in the list is because you don't profit as much as people suggest. As long as you have ONE Artisan skill you will always have a way of making back your money. No matter what set of skills you choose, you will make money. ![]() Now that we have all of that out of the way, lets move onto something everyone loves, money. I can't say much more because I haven't spoken to any high level crafters. This is not entirely possible anymore due to the crash of item prices(More items in the game) and the rise of resources(More people training means less overall resources).Ĭrafting has a lot of attention due to Dragon hides being more available and D'Hide sets being fairly commonly purchased. Smithing has a lot of attention due to lots of insight in it, I mean I made 24M in 4 days then went from 2M to 36M in 4 days. These skills consist of Smithing, Crafting. Some skills DO NOT make much money anymore and even with 5x XP rates, it is still a long ways to get to profit. Since it's near 2 weeks into the game mode, I would like to point out a few things. Gathering skills consist of: Mining, Fishing, Woodcutting, Hunter, ThievingĪrtisan Skills consist of: Smithing, Cooking, Fletching, Herblore, Runecrafting, Crafting. You can also do 2 Gathering 1 Artisan or 2 Artisan 1 Gathering. Pick 1 Gathering and 1 Artisan skill at least, the last I would suggest Agility. These will vary, but it is fairly simple. Alternatively you can also protect magic so suiciders/pkers splash on you more often due to your magic level giving you magic defense. This is because suiciders are a thing so you need higher HP and higher defense. If you plan on being a skiller/merchant, you will want to protect HP and Defense OR HP and Magic. Depending on what you plan on doing in DeadMan Mode will determine which stats you protect. You get to protect 3 Non-Combat and 2 Combat Stats. A lost of people have messaged me asking how to train Smithing or how to make money in DeadMan Mode- So here it is. The second time was a couple days ago for 36M. I have died TWO times so far in this game mode, the first time due to a glitch which was on the 4th day of DeadMan Mode and I lose 24M. So, for those of you that don't know, I am Rank 2 in Smithing on DeadMan Mode. ![]() Have a toggle to activate / deactivate the masking state. This is usually accomplished with greyscale value maps, where black hides the masked element and white is see-throughįrom the previous examples I see the following requirements: This is useful when you are iterating over a design but only need the masked element to be show, not the mask. In PS and Krita you can have individual layer masks / transparency masks that will only affect the current layer. In Synfig you use the blending modes (onto / straight onto / alpha over, etc) along the cut out tool which creates a freehand mask when used over any layer entity (in synfig every graphic object is a "layer" btw) what happens in the background though is that a vector shape is created on top of the currently selected layer, this shape is given a blending mode of "Alpha Over" renamed as "mask" and then both layers are "encapsulated" (older terminology) into a Layer Group. In Photoshop a "clipping" group or clipping layer functions the same but in a nested way (The top layer is the CLIP, the nested layers are "CLIPPED" or inheriting the alpha) ![]() The problem with this approach is that you always have to have the "mask" elements visible, so if you want only to see the masked element there needs to be an additional approach In turn those elements that are not "inheriting alpha" become the masks themselves, so the advantage of this is that you can have multiple, separate, layers become a mask. Krita has the alpha inheritance property which makes a layer that has the "inherit alpha" mode toggle activated becomes a "masked" element. ![]() Often times you want to have a quick toggle for this. The problem with how alpha compositing is implemented in Krit or Synfig is that you require a layer group to define inheritance scope, however I think that a layer mask should be able to define it's own scope by parenting, basically allowing a layer marked as a mask to choose it's own children, that is, which object layers inherit its alpha.įlash / animate CC works converting the layer marked as mask into a "parent" or "layer group" styled layer where any layer that is nested will inherit the alpha from the mask layer, however it's main problem was that you had to "lock" the parent and chicld layer to see the masking effect in the editor. The problem is that clipping masks in programs like Photoshop allow you to see the original mask, whereas regular masks (alpha based) should only allow the masked element to be seen. While presentation varies both rely in the compositing result of the alpha values from the "clipping mask" that is inherited to the "clipped" layers. In Krita they also have a separate mode called "alpha inheritance" which is used like "Clipping Masks" in Photoshop.
